About us
About Sandstrom Dental
We're a dental practice in Mesa built around adults and older patients — people with real dental histories, existing work that needs looking after, and often a good reason to be wary of the chair.

Meet Dr. Sandstrom
Paul R. Sandstrom, DMD
Dr. Sandstrom's work is mostly restorative: implants, crowns, bridges, root canals and extractions. It's the kind of dentistry you need when a tooth has already been through something.
What never changes is how the conversation goes. You'll hear what's actually going on in your mouth, what your choices are, and which one he'd pick if it were him. Then it's your call.
How treatment gets decided
Four steps, and the order matters
You'll hear what we recommend at the end, once you've seen everything we've seen — not up front, with the reasons filled in afterward.
01
We take a proper look
A full exam, plus whatever X-rays we need to see what's really going on. We're not just checking the tooth that brought you in and leaving it there.
02
We show you what we found
In plain English, with your images up on the screen beside you. If something is worth keeping an eye on rather than treating today, we'll say so right then.
03
We talk through your options
All of them, including waiting, when waiting is genuinely a fair call. You'll hear what each one involves and what it will ask of you.
04
You decide
In your own time, not on the spot in the chair. Take it home and think it over if you'd like. Nothing gets booked because you felt awkward saying no.
The people you'll see
A hygiene team patients stay for
The same people, year after year — and it's a big part of why families have kept coming back to us for so long. You'll see familiar faces, and we'll remember your mouth and what you're like in the chair.
We'll tell you if you don't need it
The thing patients mention most is the treatment we didn't sell them. If a tooth can be watched rather than drilled, that's what we'll tell you.
Built around sensitive patients
Nervous, sensitive, or putting off a visit you know you need — that's most of who we see. We go slower, we explain first, and we stop the moment you ask.
The same team, visit after visit
Our hygienists have been with us for years, and that's a big part of why families have been coming here for decades. You won't be starting over with a stranger each time.

If you've been putting it off
Tell us that when you book
Plenty of people come to us after avoiding the dentist for years, usually because of something that happened at one. We won't lecture you about the gap, and nobody here is going to react to what we find.
Telling us you're nervous when you call really does change the appointment. We'll book more time, explain more before anything happens, and stop more often to check you're doing alright. And if you'd rather just come in to talk and have a look, with no treatment at all that day, ask for that — it's a completely normal thing to book.
Same goes if you're sensitive to dental work. It's one of the things our patients mention most, and we'll work around it rather than push you through it.
Not sure what you need?
That's okay.
Many patients come in knowing something isn't right but aren't sure what treatment they need.
We'll start with a conversation and a thorough evaluation. Dr. Sandstrom will explain what he sees, discuss your options, answer your questions, and help you decide what makes sense for you.
